How do I become a volunteer?
Please click here for more information on getting started!

What training is required?
To work directly with animals, attendance at an introductory animal care training class is required. Some animal care positions may require additional training. Training for volunteer positions that do not involve direct animal care is given as needed.

What is the minimum time requirement?
Animal care positions generally require a minimum of eight hours of volunteer service per month.

How old do you have to be to volunteer?
Age requirements vary depending on the volunteer position. Please take a look at our volunteer opportunities for age requirements specific to each position.

I'm not old enough to volunteer, but I'd really like to help. Is there anything I can do?
Although we do not have any volunteer opportunities at the shelter available to those under the age of 14, we encourage kids to help the shelter animals through special projects and fundraising. Please visit the Ways Kids Can Help page for suggestions.

Can I get community service hours for school?
Students looking to complete community service hours for school must be over the age of 14, and have a minimum of 20 hours to complete. Community service hours will only be honored through sorting redeemable bottles and cans for our Empties for Animals fundraiser outside on shelter grounds. Other opportunities to help may be available depending on current needs. To apply for community service, please complete our Community Service Application.

Can I satisfy court-ordered community service requirements?
We will sometimes accommodate those looking to complete court-ordered community service, depending on the reason and length of service required. Volunteers completing court-ordered community service may assist with sorting redeemable bottles and cans for our Empties for Animals fundraiser outside on shelter grounds. Please complete our Community Service Application for consideration.

Are there any costs associated with volunteering for the Humane Society?
We do not require a fee to become a volunteer. Volunteer name tags are provided at the beginning of your service. Volunteer t-shirts will be provided to volunteers who have completed a minimum of 20 hours of volunteer service; otherwise, t-shirts may be purchased for a small fee.
