Spay/Neuter Program
The Mohawk & Hudson River Humane Society is committed to long-term solutions to the problem of pet overpopulation -- which is why every dog, cat and rabbit adopted from the Society since 2006 has been spayed or neutered before going home. That's hundreds of animals being spayed or neutered every year.
We also recognize many people want to avoid unwanted litters of puppies and kittens but can't afford to have the surgery done. The Society offers subsidized spay/neuter surgery for people with limited income for a lower fee. We are currently offering this service only for cats, but hope to expand our efforts to include dogs in the near future. Surgery clinics are held on most Sundays. Appointments must be made in advance.
Rabies and FVRCP (distemper) vaccinations are included in the price of surgery. Services available for an additional fee include feline leukemia testing, heartworm testing and microchipping.
To find out if you meet our income qualification requirements and to schedule surgery, please call the Society at (518) 434-8128 extension 0. You can download an application for services here.
Do you know someone who is reluctant to spay or neuter their pet? Download our informational brochure to help convince them.
