FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - March 13, 2008

"Around the World for Eighty Strays" Gala to Benefit the Mohawk & Hudson River Humane Society

The Mohawk & Hudson River Humane Society is pleased to announce plans for its first-ever Around the World for Eighty Strays fundraiser. The gala event will be held on April 4, 2008 at Wolferts Roost Country Club. Doors will open at 7:00pm.

The evening will be highlighted by a live and silent auction featuring items such as wine and gift baskets, beauty and fitness packages, golf outings, New York Giants and Jets sports memorabilia, a 14-karat gold necklace courtesy of Phil Alexander Jewelers, a custom-made suit from Christopher's, a hot air balloon ride, Southwest Airlines tickets for travel anywhere in the continental United States, a one-week stay at the Kahana Beach Resort on Maui, and the opportunity to make your best friend a star with an appearance on the cover of the Society's 2009 "Cutest Pets" calendar. All proceeds will benefit the Mohawk & Hudson River Humane Society.

The event will also include an international food buffet, a selection of wines and entertainment by 24 Seven. The group, formed in 2000, is comprised of Siena College professor Father Dennis Tamburello and college alumni Michael Murphy and Steven Wilson.

Assemblyman Bob Reilly will serve as Honorary Chairman and Ben Patten, co-host of the Magic in the Morning show on 100.9 FM, will act as auctioneer.

"We are looking forward to what is sure to be a wonderful evening to benefit the Society and our important work," said Denise Ringer, President of MHRHS' Board of Directors. "Wolferts Roost will be a beautiful backdrop for an evening full of food, fun and wonderful entertainment. We greatly appreciate the Roost's gracious hospitality and support, as well as the generosity of all the vendors and individuals who have donated items for the auction."

In existence since 1887, MHRHS provides shelter and care for thousands of lost, abused and abandoned animals each year. The Society also works to promote the human/animal bond through adoption, education and humane investigation. This non-profit organization receives no ongoing funding from federal, state or local governments, or any other animal welfare organization. Donations help to support the shelter and its mission of caring for animals in need.
