MENANDS - The Mohawk & Hudson River Humane Society is preparing for its second annual Around the World for 80 Strays gala at Wolferts Roost Country Club in Albany on Friday, April 24. "Last year 300 guests attended, raising more than $60,000 for orphaned animals of the Capital Region. A similar turnout is expected for this year's event," said Brad Shear, Executive Director of the Society. The 7:00 p.m. event will feature live and silent auctions, music and dancing. WTEN's Anya Tucker will be on hand as emcee, and Bocker the Labradoodle is the event's honorary chair. Bocker, who resides in upstate New York, is a Labrador/standard poodle hybrid who has modeled in ads for Tommy Hilfiger, Ralph Lauren, Barney's NY, Target and more. The Society also will be presenting its 2008 Humane Heroes awards: - Best "Happy Tail" to Leanne Robinson-Maine, Justin Maine and Buster
- Humane Business of 2008 to Standard Commercial Interiors, Albany
- William O. Stillman Humane Veterinarian Award to Tara Estra, DVM
