Homeless cats and kittens will have a new venue in the Capital Region to find potential families. The Mohawk & Hudson River Humane Society will now partner with PetSmart in Latham Farms to offer cat adoptions seven days a week. The official kick-off for the adoption partnership will be Saturday, January 24th from 10am to 5pm. "We are very pleased that PetSmart in Latham is going to work with the Society to help with adoptions for these animals," said Brad Shear, Executive Director of the Menands-based Society. "We hope to find homes for up to 300 cats and kittens each year at this site." PetSmart has been working with shelters across the country for years to adopt cats, dogs and other pets into loving families, and is currently a partner with the Society at their Glenmont location. The Society's mascot, "Cleocatra," will be on hand to greet kids at the store between 10am and 2pm. There will be discount cat adoptions on January 24: fees that are regularly $75 for adult cats and $100 for kittens will be $50 and $75, respectively, on that day. All felines available for adoption at PetSmart will already be spayed or neutered and will have their necessary vaccinations. The adoption center will be open 7 days a week: 6pm to 8pm weekdays, and 10am to 4pm on weekends. The center can hold up to six cats or litters of kittens at one time. The Mohawk & Hudson River Humane Society is the largest animal protection agency in New York's Capital Region. The Society is committed to protecting and providing for abused and orphaned animals and finding them suitable new homes. The Society receives no funding from local, state or federal government, or national animal welfare organizations. The Society's Animal Care Center at 3 Oakland Avenue in Menands is open seven days a week. For more information, please call 434-8128 or visit www.mohawkhumane.org.
