The Mohawk & Hudson River Humane Society is proud to announce their second annual Feline Festival on September 5th, 6th and 7th. The festival is a three-day celebration of America's most popular pet. The Society is filled with cats and kittens in urgent need of new homes. For those three days, adoption fees for cats will be 50% off the normal fee. This year, for the first time, the Society will also discount the adoption fees for rabbits and rodents. "I think a lot of people don't realize we find homes for rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs and domestic rats, too. This is a way for us to feature these great pets," said Brad Shear, Executive Director. In addition, on Saturday, September 6th from 10am to 5pm, the Society will offer discounted pet supplies, face painting for kids and food from the grill. From 11am to 1pm, the Society will provide permanent microchip identification to anyone's pets for only $20. New kittens have been born throughout the summer months because too few people have their pets spayed or neutered. "Sometimes we get 20 or 30 cats a day for several days in a row," Shear stated. "Those kinds of numbers put a huge strain on the Humane Society's ability to care for animals and find them homes." The Society is currently caring for over 260 cats, about half of which are in foster homes. The Humane Society has had hundreds of kittens in foster care all summer long that are now getting old enough and strong enough to be adopted into loving homes. Now is the time to go to the Humane Society, or one of its PetSmart adoption centers in Glenmont or North Greenbush, and add a cat or kitten to your family.
