$1,000 Reward Offered in Cat Cruelty Case

July 18, 2008

An anonymous attorney from Albany is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for killing a cat found on the Congress Street Bridge in Troy.

Brad Shear, Executive Director of the Mohawk & Hudson River Humane Society, received a call from the attorney on Thursday, the day after the case of abuse was reported. "He was outraged by the case and wants justice for this defenseless animal," Shear said of the donor.

"This case is a real cause for concern for all of us," Shear continued. "Someone who would do this to a cat will inevitably move on to human victims when the opportunity arises."

Humane Society officials are asking anyone who may have information about the cat that was found brutally killed on Wednesday morning to call the Troy Police Department at (518) 270-4426. Police officials ask that you call only if you have information about the case.

People with questions about the reward, or those wishing to make additional contributions to the reward, may contact the Mohawk & Hudson River Humane Society at (518) 434-8128.
