MENANDS, NEW YORK: July 8, 2008 -- MHRHS is pleased to announce the 4th annual Art Saves Animals art auction and has placed a call for art to help our community's abandoned and abused animals. On Saturday, September 13, the Society will hold its annual art auction and reception at the Albany Center Galleries in downtown Albany at 6:00 p.m. "We are excited about this year's event," said Executive Director Brad Shear. "The auction has become an event the public has come to recognize and look forward to. This year's featured artist, Stephen Huneck, who is especially well known in the Northeast, graciously donated the image 'Give Love Get Love' for the invitation and event t-shirt." The Society is currently accepting donations of original artwork of various mediums. Previous years' auctions have featured paintings, photographs, pottery, sculpture and jewelry. All proceeds from the silent and live auctions directly benefit orphaned animals. Art pieces do not have to be animal-related, as there will be both art enthusiasts and animals lovers in attendance at the event. Shear continued, "The outpouring of support from our neighbors has been tremendous. Our spring Gala was sold out, the numbers of visitors to our Animal Care Center are up, and our phones ring off the hook with calls of support after one of our investigations into animal cruelty has gone public. We know that not only are we doing the right thing -- saving lives -- but that we are supporting our community, just as they support us." Individuals interested in participating may visit MHRHS' web site at or pick up submission forms at the shelter on Oakland Avenue in Menands. Corporate and Individual Sponsorships are still available. Contact: Stephanie Mack, Director of Development (518) 434-8128, ext. 212
