Albany, NY, March 30, 2007 -- The Mohawk & Hudson River Humane Society (MHRHS) will open its second PetSmart cat adoption center with the opening of the Glenmont store on April 2. The Humane Society partnered with PetSmart in North Greenbush in May 2006 and has since placed more than 500 cats and kittens from that location. "MHRHS is very grateful to PetSmart for inviting us to partner with them at a second adoption center in the Capital District," said Warren Cox, Interim Executive Director. "The timing of this new adoption center is particularly beneficial because kitten season, during which our main animal care center receives hundreds of cats and kittens per month, is just around the corner." The adoption centers are maintained and operated by dedicated MHRHS volunteers who assist prospective adopters in choosing the right cat for their household and lifestyle. "Those who adopt our cats and kittens from PetSmart stores are people who might not otherwise visit the shelter. Our partnership with PetSmart provides us with excellent additional exposure to the community," states Deidre Bruce, volunteer coordinator for the Humane Society. The Humane Society will hold adoption hours seven days a week at the Glenmont PetSmart adoption center, where shelter cats will reside while they await permanent homes. The adoption center will open at 6:00 p.m. Monday and, like the North Greenbush site, will be open weeknights from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and weekends 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Volunteers are still needed and can apply by calling 434-8128, ext. 206.
