Claiming Lost Pets

To locate a lost pet, call nearby shelters, rescue groups and your local Animal Control office. Also note Tips on Preventing Your Pet From Getting Lost.

MHRHS houses stray animals from over 30 different municipalities. You must come to the facility and take a look through our stray building. We cannot make confirmations over the phone. Lost cats and dogs are held for claiming at MHRHS for:

• 5 DAYS (no identification)
• 7 DAYS (with identification)

After the appropriate redemption period has passed, the owner forfeits ownership to the MHRHS under Article 7, Section 118 of the Agriculture & Markets Law.

Did You Lose Your Dog?

In order to redeem your dog from MHRHS you will need: Proof of current dog license Current rabies vaccination paperwork Driver's license or photo ID Photo of the dog with you or your family
