Happy Tail: Tommy, Zoey, and Sunny

Hey All!

We just wanted to share our story with everyone at the Mohawk & Hudson River Humane Society and everyone who loves to read "Happy Tails".

Tommy: When my boyfriend’s cat had to be put to sleep in January, he was devastated. In early February I decided to make my first trip to the Mohawk & Hudson River Humane Society to find him a new friend. That day I found 2-year-old Thomas O’Malley (orange tiger cat). I brought him home and he was a little skittish at first, but next thing you know he was king of the couch! We were going to change his name, but every time we said it we laughed, so it stuck.

Zoey: A week later we were down there again getting Zoey (long-haired grey cat). She was just 6 months old and very inactive that day because she had just been spayed the day before. When we got Zoey home I thought we were really in for it. Tommy did not like her one bit! He would chase her and block her in the corner and not let her out. We didn’t know what to do. We tried our best to keep them apart, but Tommy wouldn’t stop going after her.

Sunny: About a month later, I couldn’t keep myself off the MHRHS website. (I still go on and look at the animals’ pictures every day.) I begged my boyfriend for a third cat, but he didn’t want one considering how badly Tommy and Zoey were getting along. After hours of begging I was down at MHRHS for the third time, where I found 2-year-old Sunny (black and tan tiger). She was sweet, affectionate and beautiful! When I brought Sunny home in the cardboard carrier, I opened the top and left her in there so Tommy and Zoey could come sniff her. We were so nervous when Tommy came over to the box; we expected the worst. Tommy sniffed a bit and then he did the weirdest thing: he started rubbing affectionately against the box! Since that day, Sunny and Tommy are inseparable! They sleep and eat together; they even clean each other! Sunny also plays with Zoey and has brought Tommy and Zoey together. Thanks to Sunny we now have balance and peace.

Thanks so much! We love our cats!
