Adoption Information

The Mohawk & Hudson River Humane Society places animals in responsible homes. Each adopted animal is spayed or neutered, microchipped and vaccinated. If you are interested in adopting a dog and would like to complete the profile in advance, you may find it here.

A valid and current photo ID is required to adopt any animal.

Some people find it difficult to visit the shelter to adopt an animal. MHRHS conducts adoption clinics throughout the Capital District. Please visit our Calendar of Events for dates and locations.

You are encouraged to bring a carrier for your new cat. If you do not have one, you can purchase one at the shelter/adoption clinic for a nominal fee.

SAINT - Senior (and Special Needs) Animals In Need Of Thee: Older animals still make wonderful pets! This special program is designed to give mature animals a better chance for adoption. Any cat or dog age 7 or older will be considered a Senior for this purpose, and will have a reduced adoption fee. The shelter may also categorize certain animals as Special Needs with a reduced adoption fee.
